Diversity & Inclusion
Everyone deserves to be judged on their merits.
We believe the best hire is simply the right person for the role — and that who someone is, and who they love, should never count against them, in our office or anyone else's. Garrick Talent is an open, welcoming firm, and we mean it.
Why this matters to us
Not a badge — a belief
Recruitment sits at a decision point in people's lives, and we have seen first-hand how bias — spoken or unspoken — can quietly shut talented people out. That is a waste for them and for the employers who miss them. We founded Garrick Talent to do this work honestly, and inclusion is inseparable from that: you cannot claim to judge people fairly and then let prejudice back in through the side door.
This isn't a policy we wrote to tick a box. It's personal to the people who run this firm, and it shapes how we hire for ourselves, how we advise clients, and how we look after every candidate who trusts us with a career move.
Our own team is a genuinely diverse one, and many of our colleagues are openly themselves at work — including plenty who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. We think that is exactly how it should be. Nobody here has to leave part of who they are at the door, and we would not want them to.
What we hold ourselves to
These apply to our own team and to every search we run on behalf of a client.
Hiring on merit, without bias
We assess people on skills, experience and judgement — never on sexual orientation, gender identity, race, disability, age, religion or any other protected characteristic. Our shortlists are built to be fair.
A workplace where you can be yourself
Every colleague at Garrick Talent should feel safe to be open about who they are. We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment or "banter" that crosses the line — from anyone, at any level.
Respecting names and pronouns
We use the name and pronouns a person tells us are theirs. It costs nothing, it means a great deal, and it is simply good manners.
Confidentiality, always
Being out at your current job, or with us, is your choice and yours alone. We never disclose anything about a candidate — including anything relating to their identity — without explicit permission.
Challenging clients when needed
If a brief, a process or a comment risks excluding people unfairly, we say so. A good consultant is candid; part of our job is to help clients hire better and more inclusively.
Learning, not performing
Allyship is a practice, not a logo. We train our consultants, listen to our people, and accept that we will not always get everything right — but we will always try to, and put it right when we don't.
Everyone is welcome here
We want to be plain about this, because it matters. Whoever you are, whoever you love, however you identify — you are welcome at Garrick Talent, as a colleague and as a candidate. Many of our own people are, and are open about it, and it has only ever made this a better place to work. You will never have to hide, explain or justify who you are to us.
Equality is the law — and the floor, not the ceiling
Under the Equality Act 2010, it is unlawful to discriminate against someone because of a protected characteristic — including sexual orientation and gender reassignment. As a member of the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC), we are bound by its Code of Professional Practice on fair and non-discriminatory recruitment.
But the law is the minimum. Meeting it is not something to be congratulated for; it is the starting line. What we care about is going beyond compliance — building a firm, and helping build client teams, where difference is genuinely welcome and people can do their best work as themselves.
For candidates
Whoever you are, you will get the same from us: honest advice, a senior consultant who takes the time to understand what you want, and a promise that your details — and your identity — stay private unless you tell us otherwise. We are always free for candidates, and we will never put you forward for a role, or an environment, we do not believe is right for you.
For employers
If you want to build a team that reflects the country you operate in — and hire the best person for each role in the process — we can help. We advise on inclusive job specifications, structured and fair assessment, and shortlists you can trust. Diverse teams are not a nice-to-have; the evidence that they make better decisions is overwhelming.
"We built the firm we wished existed — honest, senior, and open to everyone. Inclusion isn't a policy bolted on afterwards. It's part of what 'done properly' means."
— James Garrick, Founder & Chairman
